Where the prices come from
Retail
Blizzard publishes a snapshot of every auction house about once an hour. We read the US connected-realm auction houses and the US and EU commodity markets every 15 minutes and keep hourly history for the last week and daily history beyond that.
- Lowest buyout is the cheapest unit price listed in the latest snapshot.
- Median (commodities) is the middle unit price across everything listed that hour. It moves less than the lowest price and is a better read of what an item really trades for.
- Available is the total quantity listed; listings is how many separate auctions that quantity is split across.
- Commodities (stackable goods) share one market per region. Gear, battle pets and other unique items are listed per connected realm.
EU realm auctions (gear and pets on individual EU realms) are not tracked yet; EU commodities are.
WoW Forever
Blizzard does not publish WoW Forever auction data, so these prices come from players. The TheWoWDB - Forever addon runs a full auction house scan in game, and the TheWoWDB desktop client uploads it. Each scan replaces the previous one for that faction house, and every scan is also kept as an hourly sample for the price history.
Because the data comes from scans, an item that nobody has scanned recently may show an older price. The "last scan" time on every page tells you how fresh the numbers are.
Money
Prices are shown the way the game shows them: gold, silver and copper. 100 copper is 1 silver; 100 silver is 1 gold.
